I drive a 2007 Chevrolet Classic 2500HD Crew Cab 4x4 diesel short bed daily driver. For fun I drive an American made 97 Panoz . 4427

Used to street race against Chevelles like yours with my 70 big block Challenger back in the 70's.
Same here!
Once i got it all put back together, i would go out trolling for a street match, any muscle car that came along, i would go for it! Got to the point that unless it was a Hemi, a LS-6 454, a Buick or a Olds 455, it wasnt really worth it!
Even today, while rare to get a race, its still fun as heck! Went up against a HellCat a few weeks ago, he got me off the line, but i ran him down! Still lost, but that was a 735 HP HellCat against my 500HP or so with a 4 speed manual! Im ok with that!

Agreed!
Wife blew up her Volvo for the last time and I promised her I would get her a new car! She really really wanted the new Mustang GT! We test drove one and it was frickin awesome! Only problem is she needs more room and a hotrod muscle car just wasnt going to work, So................
We bought her a 2017 Dodge Durango SRT-8 Hemi! We realy liked the Jeep version, but it didnt have enough room, and tjere was a Durango sitting there next to it! The rest is history! She loves that SRT and wouldnt trade it for any thing!

In this country, an average American can restore an old car and proudly drive it around town. Having a restored car is a bit of a status symbol, even. You don't see restored cars too much in Europe; at least not as much as I remember from living in Italy 1969-73, then 75-76. In the average European family, having one car is about all they can afford.

The taxes on gasoline in those socialist democracies are outrageous. Taxes on the roads are outrageous. Taxes on everything are outrageous. I'd even hazard the guess that old cars are frowned-upon by European governments because they are not as fuel-efficient as newer models, and the factories have to be kept busy making new cars so that all those burdensome taxes can be continued to be collected. Makes you so happy you live in America, where a restored 1948 Mercury Coupe with a 2018 GM V-8 under the hood is something that's admired instead of despised...

Nailed it!
I can drive one of my "Old" cars as much as I care to, and they dont cost me any more then a new car. I can also get pretty close to the same gas millage if im careful about it! No matter where i am, or where i park one, it always gets attention and admiration! Its also a lot of fun when a teenager comes up and askes me "Whats that? I havent ever seen one of those before!" Or the younger kids that didnt get to have carburetors and big thumpin V-8s under the hood and a 4 on the floor!
Its evem better when you hose a modern hotrod Subaru with your 50+ year old car!

Hahaha!!

Go ahead and tell them what your response is when that teenager comes up and asks you...

Teenager: "Hey old man, what kind of car is that"?

Uri-Ki: (Racks 1911) "GET OFF MY LAWN"!

LOL!

I used to get allot of interest with some of my older 4wd trucks, Jeeps and rock buggy. Some kids just think old stuff is cool. Cars, that is... old guys are mostly just grumpy in their heads...

Im right at the line between old guy and still sorta cool in their eyes! Lol
Now if im rockin with my Dad and his hotrods, that blows their minds!
Sorta old guy and super ancient dude rockin a street legal gasser! Lol

Yeah, I know just bustin on ya.

If you're the kind of old guy that takes the time with them like I do, they usually warp their impression of you into something positive.

I've mentored allot of youngsters, and I've avoided allot of them. You just know.

I have had more fun mentoring young ones with firearms, cars, boats, and airplanes! I have helped a few get into flying, and helped inspire more then a few "Old Cars" along the way!
Nothing like takin a 20sumthing for his first ride ever in a muscle car or hotrod, then handing him/her the keys and letting them drive it! Converts every one of them!
Both my Brothers are the same! My Middle brother has 1 of 11 Mustangs and he beats the snot out of it like it should be, and every kid that has ever gon for a hairy white knuckle ride in it now wants or has a cool old car! Baby bro has a psycho 68 Chevelle SS with a 622 inch Mountain Motor big block and fuel injection, makes over 1000 Horses, and he gives kids rides all the time in it! No one wants a honda after a ride in that big nasty! Last time I drove it, i almost passed out from the acceleration!

Had a youngster pretty recently, really drooled all over my Alfa Romeo, asking tons of questions and really all about it! He had never seen one or even heard of one! Took him for a rip in it and then handed him the keys and let him drive it! He is seriously hooked on fine Italian Performance cars now, so you can imagine his impression when I showed him my Ferrari project, he about lost his mind!
Kid found a 1972 Alfa Romeo Alfetta 2.0L and is having a blast working on it with all his buddies! Need to stop by soon and see how its going and give inspiration, keep him motivated!
