Here's one from back in the day - 1980.
I used to drive this out to Carefree Highway on Saturday nights and make a little money with it street racing. (Again, back in the day). It just so happened that Car Craft magazine did a story about the events out there one particular evening when I cleaned up, as in the quickest idiot out racing there that night. They wrote the story to make it sound more glamorous that it was of course. I had instant fame (3 months later LOL) - along with all the law enforcement attention I could stand also. Everybody was looking for me....and they all came loaded for bear!

Then I decided I needed a real race car. So I scraped up all the funds I could find - and bought an ex-prostock car. It wasn't really much of a car, and it only had 1 seat in it. It was rattled, noisy, uncomfortable, AND REALLY LIGHTWEIGHT! I managed to get it licensed, and would tow it down to Tucson to street race it. (Again, back in the day).

I sure do miss all of these old cars - mainly because after 35-40 years - I've forgotten all the headaches they caused me, and only remember the "good times" with them.

I was the same with my Challenger, got about 2 months worth of street racing before the word spread that certain Green Challenger was unbeatable, and not worth going after! Had some guy came clear down from seattle with his blown Camaro and looking for me! Lol
He caught up to me out by Vancouver Lake and we went for it. I got him outta the Hole every single time, and could beat him to the 8th, but he had the power and legs to run me down, beating me half the time! That was some hairy racing! I broke the right axle near the end of the night and limped it over to a buddies house and called the wife to come get me and drive me home, she was NOT HAPPY with me!
Had to take the rear end out and have Dutchman make me a new set of narrowed axles and cut my tubes so I could get bigger shoes under the rear! Mini tubed it the next weekend and then twisted the drive shaft! After that i slowed down on the street scene for a while! Plus, a guy I knew flipped his GTX over behind John Deere and several folks got hurt when he crashed into the bystanders! Street racing got to be expensive and I only had a few weeks per year while on leave, so family came first!

Always wanted a 65 Valiant coupe, have a 1970 340 small block that needs a home and would be fun to rip around on the streets eatin up 4 banger cars!
You should do it!
I pulled out a stack of old car pics and it makes me somewhat sad that I couldn't have kept a couple of them. But I have no idea where I would have been able to store them. It's good to remember the good old days for sure!

A 1998 base model Plymouth Grand Voyager. Clearcoat is peelin' off. Handcrank front door windows. A/C inop. 167,000 miles. Was given to me to park at my place because the owner didn't have space where he lived. Had it parked for five years, then sought to give it back to him. He disappeared; even USPS couldn't find him. Decided to make it my own. Had a new title created, fixed it up and have been driving it since August of 2013; over 60,000 miles. Has been very reliable; tuned-up only twice in six years. I like the thing, no matter how schumery it looks...
Timing belt broke on the evening of July 3; several valves were bent.

Cost to repair is infinitely more than it's worth. How so? I called Pick & Pull and asked for a quote concerning its scrap value. Was told it had a value of negative twenty-four dollars. What does that mean? It means the need for parts from such a car is so minuscule, I'd have to pay Pick & Pull twenty-four bucks to leave it as scrap in their Sparks facility. The thing is in excellent shape for its age; just that nobody wants any part of it, to turn a phrase.

So now I need to purchase replacement transportation. I really like the minivan type, but it's very hard to find something old enough to afford it. All I can find are 2017s and 2018s. Much too expensive. I have come to like old, worn-out, trashy-looking cars. The sun in these parts really tears-up the interiors of cars. Why spend a fortune on a car and have the sun and weather destroy it?

nvshooter, I'm getting rid of a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer base model with 95,000 miles. Call Tom at 928-706-5555
No, thank you. Much more than I can afford. I have a vehicle at which I'm looking that looks terrible but is in good shape. I know the man who repaired it. If it needs future repairs, he can do it for $25 an hour and I can buy the parts. The vehicle is about a mile from me, on his property. Cars on dealer lots have higher prices because the dealer (new or used) is paying inventory costs to keep those cars on his lot. I'm not going to pay several hundred extra bucks because the car I want has been sitting on the lot at Crazy Wayne's Cars and Camping World for fourteen months.
