I'm a land surveyor and did a project on the Mexican border (summer, +100 degrees) a few years back. Bought a gallon of water and tossed it behind the seat. Threw a bunch of gear back there as well. The gallon jug got punctured about 3/4" from the bottom and leaked out onto the floorboard. I did a 12 hour day in the Mexican desert with that much water.

The lesson: I buy packages of individual water bottles, not single gallons..........
