My intent and pushback is solely due to just two parts of that statement. I am not concerned with how much money you have in your bank account, if your retirement fund is fully funded, how many guns you own, buy or sell. I too belong to several forums, primarily firearms and reloading and I always challenge statements like this because it implies just sitting back, waiting for us to devolve into firearms seizures and having to just surrender or fight.

My preference is to fight now, on paper, at meeting, on forums, and in the political realm so my children and grandchildren don't have to make a decision on whether or not to shed blood in the fight. Best part is that it will cost almost no time or money, you can get a hired gun, so to speak, 2A foundation, GOA, AZCDL, even a revitalized NRA to do the fighting for you. All you do is pay a few bucks and become part of the organizations headcount which wields influence with politicians.

That's all that I push and will continue to push.
...............hardly. I won't ever get rid of all my guns unless they are forcibly removed. ....................... a political fight that I feel is ultimately going to be lost

I realize this will probably be met with resistance and hate, but has anyone else felt that the fight against losing guns isn't worth it sometimes? I have sold off most all of my guns in the past several years. I honestly don't miss most of them. I miss a couple really cool ones, but really, it isn't that big of a part of my daily life, and if it comes to the point where we have to give them all up I wouldn't be that mad. I've never needed them, and I've been in very bad situations. I feel like a lot of people romanticize the idea of being a hero in a cowboy shootout type of situation. I've had my concealed carry license, open carried, etc and always kinda felt like I was being paranoid. Frankly, I'm more likely to die in a fiery car crash and I don't wear a helmet a fire suit every time I drive. Is the passion about it being taken away more about the control than the actual thing?
It's a personal decision. If you feel you don't need or want guns, that's up to you. The 2nd Amendment doesn't mandate that everyone carry or own a gun, it just gives us the right to make a choice and your choice is your business same as if someone feels a need to carry is their business and not yours

WOW. Nobody is saying you MUST own a firearm, or you MUST carry. Relinquishing a freedom because you don't choose to exercise it is not what I read jburtt to be saying. In my opinion giving up freedom because you personally don't choose not to exercise it is flat out stupid.

I believe gays have the same rights I do but I'm not going to wear a tutu and a pink bolo and dance down Mainstreet shouting stay out of my bedroom. I don't think you have to do the most in-your-face act or any other overt activity to support any rights.

Do what you want, but don't shun efforts to support what you do. You know, you are on a firearms forum, right??

As a dyed-in-the-wool libertarian, though a registered Democrat (primarily as a reaction to Nixon), I choose to do what I can by voting aginst Liberal insanity and creeping Socialist fascism wherever I find it. As a closet libertarian I firmly believe in the principle of "Your right to swing your fist stops at the tip of my nose". And that extends to every aspect of individual rights! Period! "You do what you do" is generally extended to everyone. Don't give a damn about who you do, or how you do it as long as it is consensual. Don't care if you wear a dress, don't care if you want to wear one black and one red shoe, don't care WHAT you say or do as long as you DO NOT TRY TO FORCE ME to do the same. I don't react to coercion very well....

ynotAZ, I didn't get that impression at all from jlwidman1's post. I don't read that anyone is relinquishing a right which is not the same as exercising and no one has said that either. Granted till jburtt clarified his original post, I thought the same thing that jburtt was giving up.

I have a foolish number of guns, the vast majority of which are sporting arms and/or collectibles, and hope to turn these into cash over my retirement years. With New Mexico and Washington continuing to expand FFL requirements my profit margin and market reach have already both retreated.

There will never be another gun show in New Mexico. The 7-day rule makes it impossible for any dealer to profitably participate. And if I sold a couple of shotguns on my own depending on the wind or the weather I might be considered as someone selling guns with intent to make a profit and subject to FFL requirements.

Neighbors having a yard sale hope to make a profit.
