Depends on several things. I just picked up one a did quite a bit of reading. Two barrels is a plus. What year is it?
It seems the old schoolers prefer the G1 model for the awesome trigger while others say the G2 is the one. There are several noted differences one being the hammer safety. Three different model upgrades.
The easiest is if you can cock the hammer without breaking the gun open. G2.
If you have to break the barrel to cock then it's a G1. The barrels interchange between the G1 and G2.
The engraving changed over the years and looking at yours this is what you want.
Another quirk is Blue Book value. A G2 will go from $550 to $650 while a G1 goes for less "however" if you go to Gun Broker the G1 hits between $650 to $800. A lot depends on barrel caliper and condition is everything.
I sent an email to S&W for verification because I thought my recent purchase was a 1977. Their reply was yes. (5 digit number) Also has the high polish blue octagon barrel. It's at 98% or above condition.
For me, yes, I would buy it. Two barrels is a plus. ($200+/-value.) A big following on these. The scope on mine is $150-$200 alone. It's an original T/C scope from the same year. I paid $350 for mine with no regrets. Beautiful firearm.
