Let's clear the air a moment, according to the CDC, intentional self harm, aka suicide, while tragic, is the 10th cause of death for our country's citizens, 44k/year.

Leading causes of death, heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory disease, unintentional injuries, and stroke.

Now the study cited in this thread discusses elderly dementia citizens dying by 'intentional self harm' yet for those >65 it is not listed by the CDC as a top ten cause of death for this age group affected the most by dementia.

Bottom line, thread's cited study is self serving using shock and awe misleading stats to fill a square for the academia authors to publish an article thus spend the grant monies they collected.
