The sad state of affairs centers around the state's citizens, for whatever rationale, not having the fortitude to stand up and say enough is enough.

IMHO, Orwell's '49 tome where "... most of the world population have become victims of perpetual war, omnipresent government surveillance and public manipulation." Has in fact migrated into our society's reality!
