I've already reached out to my FFL guy.... I'm getting one of these for my new CC when it becomes available. I like the 1" thick, DA/SA trigger without the grip and trigger safeties and an actual hammer to fire it. If it shoots like the rest of my Springfields - then it will be golden as a concealed carry weapon. And I am NOT expecting it to replace my 5.25" at the range. LOL

Much as Ive admired the XD line, I am no longer interested in buying one, or any of their products imported by Springfield Armory. I got rid of my beloved M1A which Ive had for many years, my "rifleman's rifle", on account of Springfield's political stance on gun control issues.
Springfield has recently given it's support to gun control bills in the State of Illinois, to among other things restrict the number of guns you can buy to no more than 9 per year. All this goes into the great Computer and if your purchase "pings", youve already had your "nine" and tough luck for you! Aside from the limitation on how many you can buy, being itself an abrogation of the Second Amendment and a different issue- but practically speaking, computers and government record-keeping CAN and DO "glitch" and come up with incorrect information which can screw up BIG time... Name mix-ups, mistaken information filed by someone...
I personally know two cases where the computer "pinged". One guy was found to be under felony indictment from some 20 years before- well as it happened it WASN'T TRUE- and it took some time and hassle to get that worked out.. eventually the FBI apologised and "fixed" the computer. Someone had entered into the "data-base" that this man had committed a felony and the FBI filed it away until it came up on a job security check some 20 year later.
Another guy went to buy a pistol- perfectly legal and above-board, in fact the man had a law enforcement clearance on account of his work- the computer "pinged" him and said he was a wanted felon in a State a long ways from his home... Turns out this felon had the same Irish Catholic name as my acquaintance and it was a small fuss for him to send his pic and prints and prove he wasnt this other fellow. Lucky for him he was L.E. or he may have been arrested and shipped to the State in question before being able to prove his innocence.

So, NO, I don't trust computers or "back-ground checks" as anything other than attempts to abrogate our Natural Rights embodied in the US Constitution.
One More Thing- your right to keep and bear arms and use them in defense of self and family- whether against tyrant rulers or common criminals.. is mentioned in the BOR as a natural human right that transcends the power of any Government to grant or take away. These rights INHERE IN YOU AS AN INDIVIDUAL, not because Government may "grant" such rights. Government is instituted precisely to PROTECT our natural and human rights, not "grant" them.
A "right" which is granted by a ruler isn't a "right", it is mere privilege. "The RIGHT of the People to keep and bear arms, shall NOT BE INFRINGED" is right up there with free speech, press, religion, assembly, and the rest. Only in the last decade or so have the courts began to apply the Second to the States...
If you have had the patience to read this far you know exactly why I will not buy or possess any Springfield Armory products, and it saddens me- I really liked my old M1A... But there are other weapons in the arsenal, like a nice H&K91 and an FAL and I will not buy, trade in, or possess any products touched by this anti-Second Amendment company. Let them go the way S&W did when they came out against people owning handguns a few years back..
KMA, SA!

Computers screw up all the time.... because humans input bad info all the time. Everybody pretty much has to "play the game" if they intend to navigate the laws of this country as they are now - or have been. And yes, I too have been the victim of bad communications and computer glitches. I've been detained and handcuffed to a chair at the highway patrol station - until it was straightened out. You ever try changing a kid's diaper with handcuffs on? LOL
Life goes on. I was even considered deceased in the computer once. I was at work and my credentials stopped opening doors.... and then I was escorted under armed guard to the office. The reports of my demise were premature to say the least! hahaha I'm glad they were wrong! It took a month before I started getting paid again.
Computers suck sometimes.

The political reality of how our country works (or not) currently, is that employees and CEOs of companies ALSO make bad decisions all the time too. When they screw up, the entire company ends up paying for it. When they make a deal with the devils that are the anti-gun zealots and rights deniers of our country - they, and their shareholders also pay the price. Years ago, I carried my political hatchet around all the time while vowing to not spend money with this company and that company or in this state or that state. It ends up being about impossible to keep track of. It ends up like condemning an entire restaurant chain because of the actions of a single waitress or manager at a single location. After awhile - I ended up just ignoring most of it and buying what I wanted, eating where I wanted and remembering that all the employees of these places shouldn't be having to pay the price for somebody else in their company making a bad decision. It was like penalizing myself as well. I denied myself things because of political priciple that I would have liked or enjoyed - if not needed. The companies I was mad at changed CEOs or changed directions, and stayed in business in spite of bad decisions. Life goes on.

I'll get this new Springfield when it's availabe.... as long as my background check doesn't end up with a glitch on it!

Looks like a nice gun. I've been a fan of Springfield rifles and 1911's for a long time now, and I've really wanted an M1A. This recent news about Springfield has definitely left a bad taste in my mouth, and if I do decide to eventually go for it I think I'll buy used.

My wife shot the XD-E at a ladies range day. One of Springfield's professional team had the pistol for use. She liked it a lot. Told me that it would be her next pistol. Then the news broke about the IFMA and she said, "Back to the drawing board......" CEO's can make whatever bad choices they want. It's my decision (as in a person) whether I choose to do business with a certain company going forward. In the case of Springfield and Rock River, I'll take my dollars elsewhere. As will my wife apparently.

Springfield Armory Statement Regarding Gun Dealer Licensing Act (SB1657)

SPRINGFIELD ARMORY STATEMENT REGARDING GUN DEALER LICENSING ACT (SB1657)

Springfield Armory has always fought hand-in-hand with the NRA, NSSF, ISRA and many others for legislation that fiercely protects the Second Amendment, individual rights and the industry as a whole. Our fight continues today as some members of the Illinois legislature are pushing to overregulate the industry through Gun Dealer Licensing Act (SB1657).

"At the time of my initial statement to the media, I was ill-informed of the ramifications of this bill and its detrimental effects to the Second Amendment, which I have personally fought to protect my entire life. I can tell you now, we at Springfield Armory are unequivocally 100 percent against this bill and will continue to work with the NRA and others to ensure that it is defeated," said Dennis Reese, Chief Executive Officer, Springfield Armory.

Springfield Armory, like Rock River Arms, was not aware of the actions taken by our trade association, IFMA, until after the fact. We take this situation very seriously and are looking into how this very unfortunate lapse in communication occurred.

Springfield Armory has fought and defeated legislation like this in Illinois for the past 15 years. We are wholeheartedly against this bill and will fight to see it defeated as the unnecessary and harmful overreach that it is.

You can bet they are "... unequivocally 100 percent against this bill and will continue to work with the NRA and others to ensure that it is defeated", and "are wholeheartedly against this bill and will fight to see it defeated as the unnecessary and harmful overreach that it is." Now that the backlash has set in... There's been a lot about this in the internet gun media recently, we shall see how things shake out. Personally I would like to see Springfield and Rock Island move to gun friendly States, as Mag-pul did when the Demoncratic-controlled Colorado State Legislature passed their anti-gun rights agenda with the support of Gov Hickenlooper a couple years ago.
Guys I don't mean to come across as overly combative, but I do think we as shooters need to be informed and discuss these political issues which impact our Constitutional liberties, especially if we hope to pass on a legacy to our kids and grands....

Maybe I'll get lucky and get hold of a "Korean" Garand if they ever pass all the import hurdles. ;)
