I'm in Prescott, and that PD stopped checking firearm serial numbers through NCIC about 2 years ago. Said it was tying them up.

Is there any central AZ agency that provides that service? DPS?

Just about any sheriff or police station will as long as you take the gun to them.

You do know if the gun comes up stolen the police will take it, right?

Makes a lot of sense law abiding folk want to stay that way and the police are to busy
Might be time to complain to the city council.

    HotGunz Stolen Gun Database

Have no idea how accurate the site is, it is free.

If you check with Prescott Valley PD they should help you.

Of course they will but it is better than being caught with it later.
Even if you can prove you didn't steal it you will still probably spend a night or two in jail.

May be true but I don't think most buyers will opt for having their 'new' gun taken away from them

Very true , but if it was your gun that was stolen wouldn't you want it back ?

Actually I have had a couple of handsfuls of brand new guns stolen over the years, so I can assure you that only a fool checks a gun at the police station

Believe it or not, that's what the police think too.
