I'd love to get good enough to hit what I'm aiming at 1,600 yards away :D
Now pretty much given up, for over 40 years I had similar aspirations. While the folks in the SW may have unsurpassed opportunities, we rainforest moss hobbits find a 1600 yard clear & safe path not only elusive but ever dwindling.

40 cal xdm, ak47, pistol grip 12 guage. In the case of the rifle and guage my only real preference is reliability whatever it is that may be on hand if shtf

I agree. In a SHTF situation reliability is probably at the top of the list.

Yeah it's really too bad, especially if you're on the west side of the state. I'm still debating between the Ruger RPR in .308 vs 6.5 for this very reason. How often am I going to get to shoot at distances where the 6.5 outperforms?

Never thought about limiting myself to just three guns. I enjoy buying them, owning them and occasionally using them. I just like to groove on my collection and thank the Dear Lord I was born in America where Liberty reigns. But things are changing. We have dingbats in Washington who believe the failed methodology of socialism is the way in which our nation must go into the future. Socialism has abysmally failed everywhere it's been tried. The excuse the nutcases who support it use to explain away those failures is that "it wasn't done correctly." In my valueless opinion, socialism has failed everywhere it's been tried because it's a flawed system from the get-go. Margaret Thatcher said it best. All of you know what she said, so I'll not repeat it here...

I would chose a Remington 870, a Ruger GP100 in .357 Mag. along with a Ruger M77/357 Mag. for the ability to only have to source two types of ammo. My choices are based on guns that fact that they require minimum things to keep them running.

I will join in with an 870, mine is a hall sweeper now.
The 1911 even with the low count mags does the deed.
One of my bucket list guns was an AR-10 from Armalite.
I have Armalite 2 stage trigger on it and if you a bit away from me you in deep do do.

Well, ~why~ we would be limited, would be the Qualifiers for What I would choose, but then, being from Oregon, I am an odd duck, anyway.

For purely survival hunting, my choice would be these:

Ruger Single Six, Dual cylendars. That was my first Revolver, and My first smithing job, on a Revolver. It is currently owned by a former member of the US Army Pistol Marksmanship team, and he said it was the finest SA revolver he had ever owned.

My next choice, a Rossi M-92 in 357Magnum. Around my AO, it will put down any game that I can see with it. Two Legged or Four.

My shotgun, will surprise most: an H&R Topper, in 410 chambering. Single Shot, you say ??? Yes. I reload for my H&R Topper, I use Norma Brass, in 9.3x74mm Rimmed. This cartridge is in use in Europe, but has Very Interesting dimensions, First it has a very shallow shoulder to neck angle, unlike the 303 British, that most people use to make brass FourTen cases... Plus,it is 74MM in length, almost 3", an improvement over the 303. The base & other dimensions, are all (by design) equal to a .410 Cartridge !!!! After fireforming, it is a life time cartridge, IOW, lower cartridge pressures, provide Long Life. By reloading, the cost goes way down, while maintaining a good load capacity.

Why FourTen? They are quiet. And under survival hunting, quiet is good. You can get four 000 Buck into a load up, if you desire, as well as casting your own.... I have a Lee .395 round ball (spherical) that I cast for it.... So it has a lot of good potential, and is... Quiet, or did I say that.

I once took my (multiple) 410's out to shoot with some friends, they first laughed, all were die hard 12 Ga. folks, Mossies & 870's but after they saw the ability to reload the cartridges, (no, I do not reload "factory plastic", But I do Own some...) they had a differing opinion.

Now, for War: I would choose different. And have 3 goto weapons for that... All semi auto, and in .308, 45acp & 12 gauge.

But that is a different story.

I believe I like how you think... Dun

If you could only own one handgun, one rifle, and one shotgun, which would you choose? Lets say it's just like the world today, not during a SHTF scenario or anything (though that's a future possibility).

Mine would be a Glock 19, an AK47, and a Remington 870.
This question has been posted on every forum since the dawn of the internet but here goes.....this fictional scenario leaves open the issues of repair, parts availability, and local where you live which will greatly affect your individual answer. I would specifically avoid anything automatic in this situation as those types of weapons are reliant on more springs in their construction that are prone to wear cycle failure. Firing pin springs in the weapons listed are seldom if ever needing replacement in their lifetime although nothing is foolproof or guaranteed. My choices reflect the assumption that a wide range of ammo selection would be available thereby giving each one a greater window of power/application. The question basically leaves the application of these choices to hunting, self defense and plinking as it says not SHTF as that would lead to a specific situation requiring specific weapons. Brands are vague and several can fill the role in each choice, none are limited to one brand, one model restrictions.

Revolver in .357 (power, longevity of parts, availability of US made ammo)
Bolt action .308 (Same reasons as above)
Pump action shotgun in 12ga (Same as above)

Mine would be my Sig P320C, my AR-10 in 308 and my Remington Tac14 loaded with 00 buckshot.

I have a 1911 in .45, a AR-10 and my 870 dressed for home defense.
The grizzly on the end of the 870 was installed so I had just an extra punch for those who might be considered serious invaders.

1. My .357 Mag 4-inch 686 S&W round-but. It will stop almost anything it will handle .357 Mag, .38 SPL, .38 S&W, with star rings and a mill job 9mm, 38 super, 9x18, 9x17 and is one of the most accurate handguns I own.

2. My F.N. made M-16 A-2 with a match trigger and pachymeter grip. The Upper was broken in as per the order for our sniper rifles and was used as a DMR in Iraq and Africa and shoots very well. With the AR I can change uppers to many calibers I have .458 Socom, 6.5 Grendel, 7.62x39, 5.45x39, and .22 LR.

3. My Remington 870 Magnum that friends of mine at Van Comp rebuilt leaving the barrel at 20 inches (to travel to and from AK in Canada), putting sights, trigger, ballon choke, cerakoate, and Magpul stock. With other barrels from a 12-inch to 28-inch full choke and a 14-in Van Comp, it will handle anything you want to hunt or that is hunting you.

Answering the question of only ONE of each, then mine would be:

Handgun - Smith & Wesson Model 648 (Glock 17)
Rifle: Springfield Armory M6 Scout Combination Gun (16" AR-15)
Shotgun: Blaser DRILLING D99 LUXUS (Mossberg 500)

The post didn't stipulate they needed to still be in production and I cheated with the combos :). The ones in parentheses I actually own.

I'd say personally my glock 21 Gen 3 loaded with liberty defense +p 78 gr jhp ammo with Kris Vector extensions. How about a Rock island VR80 as a as my carry shotgun and my rifle would be a good old American made Ruger mini 14 ranch rifle, with a composite folding stock, you know with all the trimmings, snail and c-mags. I'd choose these three based on proven reliability ie (Glock 21, Ruger Mini 14 Ranch) VR80 just because she's a cool looking gauge
