I have been reloading for maybe 50 years. Except for a short one time use of Bullseye I have stuck with Alliant Unique and 2400 for handun (.357 & .44 magnum and 9mm), and IMR 4350 and IMR 3031 for rifle (3006 & 6mm Remington). I do not get the powders confused and there is a load for every purpose I have.

What powders do you use and what calibers do you use them with? Have you ever confused the powders and loaded the wrong one in the wrong caliber/loading?

Handguns, its Unique or Clays[.38spl& .45acp]
Rifles would be H4831sc, H4350 & Win 748 for the 30-30.
One powder on the table at a time.
I don't load for shotgun. Yet.

i own a lot more varieties of powder, haven't experimented with them yet. heck,i might even load more calibers but these are the ones i can think of without referring to my notes.

None right now, as I don't reload. That'll probably change if I start shooting 6.5 creedmore for distance.

Titegroup for 9MM
Was using 2230 for 223/556 but am now down to my last pound. Now using 335 as I have an 8 pound jug. Both are ball powder and meter very well. Haven't reloaded 30-30 or 30-06 or 38/357 for a while. Got plenty loaded for now. Mostly shoot 9MM and 223/556.
Using 4198 for my 222

Titegroup and Unique for 9mm here.
With Titegroup I have to actually measure the powder.
With Unique you darn near just fill the cartridge and let the projectile compress it. LOL
I only reload 9mm right now and it seems like almost every extra moment is spent reloading as it is.

I hate 700X, so hard to meter. I am the anomaly - I use Accurate Arms #7 for 9mm, and love it. AA#2 works for 38Spl and 45ACP. 23 is IMR 3031 or Win 748. 7.62x39mm is always AA#1680.
I have others for experiments - 5gr of Unique for a cast bullet in 9mm works pretty well. ;)

Ha ha yeah 700x i use for plinkers.

most of the time it varies .5gr plus or minus which doesnt bother me since i load near starting charge for plinkin

I use Lil Gun for 22 Hornet, W748 for my 6MM BR pistol, 2400 in my 357 Mag TC and 41 Mag TC. One bottle or can on bench at a time. Manual and digital Powder measure depending on use and cartridge. 3 press set up, with one a Lee progressive. 30Mar 30 gr 748 100 gr btsp.jpg

I could get by with 4 or 5 powders. But I would be depriving myself of the ability to taylor loads to be very economical, or taylored to be the most accurate! The more I learn about powders the more I get. I have more but I probably use 15 or 20 powders often.
A lot of the guns I load for are antiques, and I develop loads that are in the correct pressure range, function well in semi auto guns, and are safe and accurate. DR

During the bleak years of the previous joke-ministration, I was buying whatever powders (when there were any on the shelves to even be purchased) that would seemingly function in my rifles. I was buying for .223 Remington, .45ACP, .357Mag, .30-06 Springsteen, .32 Winchester Special, my .300-caliber mildcat with its 85.0 grains of water capacity and my .358-caliber mildcat with its 89.0 grains of water capacity. There is, of course, no published data for my mildcats, so I have to reduce or increase published loads in standardized rounds that use the same diameter and mass of bullets. This requires that I either search for the volume of the standardized rounds, or calculate the volume from two-dimensional drawings.

I am right now figgering the charges for my .358-incher with IMR-4166. This is a powder for 204 Ruger, 223 Remington, 22-250 Remington, 257 Roberts, 6.5 Creedmoor, 30-30 Winchester, 308 Winchester and 8 x 57 Mauser. I believe I can use this powder because the volume of my barrel needs a powder that creates a great deal of gas in a hurry to fill the pressure vessel and keep the pressure up nice & high until the bullet is gone. IMR-4166 has a burn-rate of 94 on a chart I have. A really good powder for my .358" is RL-15, which has a rate of 99. I'm thinkering I can reduce my RL-15 loads by several percent to use IMR-4166.

Experience has shown that to start low and work up is the right way to do it. I rarely get sticky bolts anymore, now that I have gained some experience in loading several different powders with several different weights of bullets. I had no idea I'd be trying to figger-out such a dizzying array of powders and bullets when I designed and brought these two mildcats to fruition. Can't go back now, so there is no other way but to proceed forward.

I have had 7.62 x 39 mm dies for over 15 years but I think I have reloaded less than 50 rounds. Back in the day you could pick up 1440 round case on striper clips for $70 and some change. Then Olympic Arms brought out their AK pistol which reclassified those rounds as armor piercing with their soft steel. They were pulled from the shelfs and over night they were going for a buck a round in the want adds. I don't know of what changed but today I get soft steel Russian rounds at still a good price. Never again at a great price.

I remember those days. There were ads in Shotgun News (early 1980s) selling 1000 rounds for 99 bucks. I didn't own my first AK until 2007; I always thought they were ugly guns possessed of atrocious accuracy. Mine was an Arsenal Arms SAS M-7; Bulgarian parts on a US-milled billet receiver. Had an underfolder stock. I fired it 40 times in ten years, then it found a new home. I sort of like the AK now because it gives an ugly old hag in Kalifonia a case of the squirts...

Then this ought to give any liberal the squirts - 7.62x39mm with home cast powder coated bullets. Accurate and a little bit stronger than a love tap. These are the 129 grain, also have a 160 grain mold for more oomph. These will reliably work in a semi-auto rifle without any deposits in the gas system, used them MANY times in the vz-58.

Very nice Armoredman!

Maybe the leftists will think it's lipstick and praise you for being so crafty! LOL

Like this? BTW, those are the 160 grainers loaded for 7.62x39mm, over AA#1680.

I love poking the liberal bear...

Can even have holiday fun.

Even if the holidays get kinda jumbled up...

BUT, this was about powder, not bullets, sorry about digressing... :) I just did some light testing with 55gr Hornaday SP over both H335 and IMR 3031, and it looks like 335 is winning the day.
