One of my favorite home blue products is Laurel Mountain rust blue. It is a time-consuming process, but it gives a dark black-blue color that is hard and wear resistant. it does not take any special equipment to apply. it is cured in boiling water.
I have a Ruger Single Six that had been carried every day since 1962. this turned a rusty beater into a fresh pistol. it was done around 2007 and still looks great today. The gun was not worth sending out to be refinished, but it was still a shooter. it was well worth the time to finish it at home. DR

Much appreciated haven't heard of it but sounds like the ultimate solution.

The equipment to blue with was a gallon of distilled water, Pyrex baking dish, a trash bag to rust in and a coffee cup of boiling water in the bag to speed up the rusting process. The Ruger took about 10 days to complete. I'll see if I still have a pic of it. DR

The process sounds legit glad you shared as it's entirely new to me. From what I can see it looks good. Rust Bluing seems to be the ultimate especially adding boiling water in the bag to speed up rusting is an innovative twist, and I can see how it would work well to keep the humidity and temperature consistent. I'm going to try this on the next one.
Thank you for sharing
