Greetings from a new member in Alamogordo NM

I've been to New Mexico just a few times, and then driving through at highway speeds. Am I incorrect in thinking there are plenty of wide-open spaces for long-range shooting? Are winters there rather unappealing for oldsters like me (I'm 65)? I've been in Nevada for over eighteen years, and will never leave. I just wonder a little about the other Big Western States-- excluding Kalifonia. I heard today on Reno radio that Nevadans are moving there in appreciable numbers. My guess is those moving west are not gun owners...
