One doctor commits suicide in the U.S. every day -- the highest suicide rate of any profession.

The new study showed that poisoning and hanging are among the most common means of doctor suicide. The findings also suggest that having knowledge and access to potentially lethal substances account for the higher rate of suicide completion in doctors. Unquote

Long article but here is into, Attribution & Quote cited article:
As the number of Americans with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia rises, health professionals grapple with how to talk to patients about gun safety at home.

Some patients refuse to answer. Many doctors don't ask. Family members worry about offending a suffering loved one. As the number of Americans with dementia rises, health professionals are grappling with when and how to pose the question: "Do you have guns at home?"

While gun violence data is scarce, a Kaiser Health News investigationwith PBS NewsHour published in June uncovered over 100 cases across the United States since 2012 in which people with dementia used guns to kill themselves or others. The shooters often acted during bouts of confusion, paranoia, delusion or aggression — common symptoms of dementia. Tragically they shot spouses, children and caregivers.

Yet health care providers across the country say they have not received enough guidance on whether, when and how to counsel families on gun safety. Unquote

Sidebar, the intro discusses Alzheimer's, but the interesting fact is that this disease can only unequivocally be confirmed as a viable diagnosis in an individual is only after death!
